Points of Interest
The L.A. Times Product team worked this year to create a framework for storing and reusing information about important places, a project led by me and Genesia Ting that we call Points of Interest. The goal is to make it easier for the newsroom to present places in curated, user-friendly formats like maps and lists. Readers benefit from features like sorting and filtering as well as direct actions, like links to order delivery from a restaurant. The first iteration of Points of Interest launched this summer, and there are plans to expand it over time to make use of geographic markers more broadly across the Times’ content.
